A Fanciful Fancy-Fold in Black and White (with a twist)...

Hi All! I hope your week is going well.
I was in need of a creative outlet today, and decided to take on a couple of challenges by the Heart 2 Heart and Color My Heart challenge blogs. Here's what I came up with:

The Heart 2 Heart challenge was to create a fancy-fold card. (Something that goes beyond just folding a 4 1/4 x 11-inch piece of cardstock in half.) So I opted for a "napkin fold" card. (You can see a great tutorial on it here.) The color scheme of Black, White and a 'pop' of Lagoon is in response to the Color My Heart challenge.

So let's take a look:

The card is held closed with a belly band made from Black cardstock cut at 2 x 11 inches and scored at 3 3/4, 4, 8, and 8 1/4 inches. After gluing the band together, I added a strip of Black Striped grosgrain ribbon and then added a double-looped bow. (The ribbon is secured with glue dots.) I tucked a little Black Tulle ribbon in the bow, added a Rhinestone Designer Brad, a couple of stick pins from the Bling Assortment, and a little pop of blue from my stash.

Here's a close up of the belly band:

Now to open it up:

The card is an 8 x 8 inch square piece of Black cardstock. I inked the folds with Black Exclusive Ink to hide the white core that was showing through. The middle area is 4 inches square. I layered White Daisy cardstock (cut at 3 7/8 inches square) with black and white damask paper from the about-to-be-released For Always collection. I then layered those pieces with Black cardstock (3 3/4 inches square) and White Daisy cardstock (3 3/8 inches square). The heart flowers and butterflies are from the A Garden stamp set, and are stamped in Black Exclusive Ink. I used my water brush to add Lagoon Exclusive Ink accents. (Black Stāz-On Ink would also work for this, and would be better if your brush is pretty wet.) The sentiment is from the soon-to-be-released Buzz & Bumble Workshop On The Go set. I stamped it onto an element cut from White Daisy cardstock in Black Exclusive Ink. I inked around the edges in Lagoon Exclusive Ink and added a bow from my stash. The little Lagoon sparkle is from the Blue & Green Sparkles assortment.

Here's a close up of the sentiment:

The damask and script (which is the back side of the damask paper) triangles are cut from 3 3/4-inch squares (for the large) and 1 3/4-inch squares (small).

And here it is again with it's belly band:

I hope you enjoyed my little creation! Don't forget: tomorrow Lynn Darda (of From My Bungalow) and I will be having a little blog share featuring the January Stamp Of The Month!

See you tomorrow!

  15. This is gorgeous! Thank you for posting a link to the tutorial. It brings back memories of way back when I was first married and had no money. I used scraps of wrapping paper to make these shapes and put them back to back to make Christmas ornaments. I still have two of them I have never thought of using them as a card and couldn't remeber how anyway. You have inpsired me!
