Rose Blossom Blog Hop: The Artistry of a Shaker Card...

Hi All! Welcome to the Rose Blossom mid-month Blog Hop featuring Close To My Heart's new Cricut cartridge collection: Artistry. If you just hopped over from the oh-so-talented Shelly's amazing blog, Just One Pretty Piece, you're in the right spot! As always, I'll have a list of the blog participants at the end of this post.

Now on with today's project!

I decided to try my hand at a shaker card. I've never done this before, but when I saw this mason jar with the heart among the Artistry cuts, I knew I had to give it a try. (You can find the mason jar cut on page 2 of the cartridge handbook, and the tag cut is on page 47.)

To create the card, I copied the mason jar 4 times, giving me 5 copies. I used two jars to create the card base by welding them together at the tops and deleting the contour outline of the heart so that the jars were solid. I then used a third jar with the heart as the card front once the base was cut. I cut both the card base and the top layer from Glacier cardstock. Using my deep-cut blade, I cut the fourth jar from craft foam so that it was slightly smaller than the card base with a slightly larger heart than the card front. Finally, I deleted the jar contour from the fifth jar so that I was left with a heart shape that was exactly the same size as the heart on the card front.

To put the card together, I folded the base in half at the top and added the craft foam. To make it fit better, I cut off the top of the fun foam jar along with its lid threads and then adhered it to the top of the base jar. I then adhered the rest of the fun foam jar to the card base centering it as best I could. I cut the heart from a piece of Zoe paper and adhered it to the card base. I then took the negative space piece and added it to the front of the card as a decorative band, sandwiching a small piece of acetate between the paper and the card front. I then removed the adhesive from Coral Reef, Silver, and Gold sequins and added them to the heart-shaped craft foam well on the card base. I thought it needed something more, so I removed the adhesive from the back of some White Enamel Stars and added them too. I then adhered the card front to the craft foam.

To decorate the front of the card, I added some Gold Shimmer Trim. Then I cut three tags from Zoe paper, White Daisy cardstock and gold dot vellum. I stamped in Smoothie ink on the White Daisy tag using stamps from the Perfect Picture stamp set, which is included in the Artistry Cricut collection. I layered the three tags using dimensional and regular adhesives, and then tied them to the card with twine from my stash.

As a final touch, I used a white gel pen to define some of the lines of the jar.

Here's another look at the card:

I hope you enjoyed my first shaker card. It was so much fun to make, I think I'll be making more! (If anyone has any tips on how to keep static electricity from causing the sequins to stick to the acetate, please leave me a comment. It was really a bit of a problem!)

Thanks for stopping by! Now hop on over and see with the incredibly talented Morgan Vogt has for  your inspiration at Tweet Scraps.
