Hello Birthday!

Hi All! Welcome to the Rose Blossom mid-September Blog Hop featuring Close To My Heart's limited edition Hello, Life! stamp sets. These sets were released to celebrate National Stamping Month and are designed to fit all your stamping needs from card making to scrapbooking. If you just hopped over from the fabulously creative Marg Van Patten's blog, I Didn't Have Potatoes, you are in the right place. If you're starting with me, I'll have a list of blog participants at the end of this post so that you can get a healthy dose of creative inspiration!

Now, let's take a look at today's project:

Despite being a card-maker, I seem to be forever in need of birthday cards. It's the weirdest thing. So I knew when I saw these sets that I would be replenishing my birthday card stash. For this card, I created a watercolor background on regular White Daisy cardstock.  (I taped it down to a clipboard using washi tape and speeded up the drying process with my heat tool. There was minimal warping. So if you don't have watercolor paper, you can use cardstock!) I also added a little stamping with White Daisy ink. (The stamped image is from the Hello, Life! scrapbooking set.)

For the card front, I stamped the Happy (from the Hello, Life! scrapbooking set) and Birthday (from the Hello, Life! cardmaking set) in Archival Black ink. I then stamped the packages (from the Hello, Life! cardmaking set) in Memento Tuxedo Black ink on White Daisy cardstock and dried the ink with my heat tool. I colored the packages in using my ShinHan twin touch markers in Tender Pink, Cherry Pink, Leaf Green, Sap Green, Turquoise Blue, Peacock Green, Peony Purple and Lavender. I fussy cut around the packages and placed the pile of three on the card to see where to stamp the bow. I stamped the bow in Archival Black ink and added a strip of Coral Shimmer Trim (cut in half lengthwise) to the packages as ribbon. I adhered the packages directly to the card front. I then added a strip of Aqua Shimmer Trim to the remaining package and placed it on the front using dimensional adhesive. I also tucked a fringe of Poppy Thick Twine to the package to mimic the bow on the stack of packages.

I then rounded the corner of the watercolored background and layered it onto a piece of White Daisy cardstock that I also rounded the corner of. I then layered that directly onto a Kraft card base (and rounded the corner again). The card needed a little something more, so I added a sprinkling of white sequins with sparkles in the center that I colored with my ShinHans.

Here are some close ups.

And here is one more look at the card:

I hope you enjoyed this festive little birthday greeting. Now hop on over to the ever-inspiring Cathy Arbuckle's blog and see what These Eager Hands have made for you today!

  6. There are so many elements displayed on just this one card ... quite amazing! Love how the gift boxes pop right off that background. The addition of stamped images on the watercolor is genius and i'm totally loving the one rounded corner (gives the card a touch of sass!).
