Tuesday Treats: HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

Hi All! Happy Valentine's Day! Just wanted to pop in and share a treat box I made to give to two of my Valentines today.

I created these two boxes using the Thin Cuts Basic Hearts dies, Neenah Solar White 110lb cardstock, and the Polkadot and Woodgrain Kraft Cardstocks from Close To My Heart's Rustic Home Fundamentals paper pack. So let's take a look:

First up is the box for my daughter. I cut two hearts from the Neenah cardstock using the largest of the heart dies and then four from the same cardstock using the heart that is the next size down. I then used the same two dies to cut four large and two of the smaller hearts from the Polkadot Kraft Cardstock. I then used the large Kraft hearts to cover front and back of the large white hearts. I covered the front of one of the smaller white hearts with one of the smaller Kraft hearts and then stacked the remaining three hearts on top of one another, adhered them together, and then covered the front with a craft heart. I inked around the edges of the hearts with Thistle ink. I then cut a strip of the Kraft Cardstock for the sides that measured 1 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches and scored it lengthwise at 1 inch. I added a strong tape to both sides of the paper in the 1/2-inch space between the scoreline and the edge of the paper. I cut thin triangles through the tape up to the score line so that I could manipulate the paper around the smaller 2-layer heart. I then adhered that to one of the larger hearts that served as a base. I added the 4-layer heart to the middle of the second larger heart to create a lid for the box (the 4-layer heart fits into the box and keeps the lid from sliding off.

To decorate the top of the box, I used the smallest heart die in the same die set to cut 2 hearts from Whimsy Fundamentals paper in Thistle. I used Thistle ink to create a patterned paper using the "XO" sentiment from Adore You (CTMH's January 2017 Stamp Of The Month) and double stamped the sentiment from the same set. I then cut out the sentiment using the label die from the Hello Lovely die set. I also tied a bow with Thistle Extra Thick Twine, and adhered one heart, the sentiment and the bow directly to the box. I then popped the other heart up using foam tape.

I created it exactly the same way using the Woodgrain Kraft cardstock and paper from the Adventure Fundamentals paper pack. I also used White Bakers Twine to tie a knot for the top instead of a bow. The sentiment was stamped in Pacifica Ink, which I also used to ink around the edges of box.

I think the kids enjoyed receiving them even more than I did making them, if that's possible! They aren't my quickest box, but I love the way they turned out. And I hope you've enjoyed them too.

My Bunny Valentine....

Hi All! So I wanted to share a couple of quick little Valentines I created with Close To My Heart's February Stamp Of The Month: Easter Bunny.

Yep, you read that right. A valentine made with an easter stamp. Take a look:

I began creating these cards by stamping the bunnies on Kraft Cardstock using Desert Sand ink. (This ink color makes it really easy to achieve a "no line" effect when coloring on Kraft.) For the boy, I only stamped the bunny and then drew in the grass and clouds free-hand. I colored the whole scene using my Prismacolor Pencils. I then cut the panel down to fit on a 3 1/2 x 5 inch (4-Bar) white card using my Tim Holtz Stitched Rectangles Thinlit dies.

To finish the card, I've added a strip of patterned paper from Close To My Heart's Adventure Fundamentals paper pack layered over a scrap of Kraft Cardstock. I added my bunny panel on top of those layers. Then I stamped a heart from the Operation Smile True Love stamp set in Pacifica ink on a scrap of white cardstock and cut it out with my scissors. The "Valentine" is from the Say It All stamp set that comes in the CTMH Flower Market Cricut Bundle. The whole sentiment reads "Happy Valentine's Day," but I masked off the words and didn't need and stamped "Valentine" in Pacifica ink on a scrap of white cardstock and cut it into a banner. I added the banner to the heart with glue dots and popped the whole thing up with foam tape. I added some hearts from the Way To Go stamp set to the front in first and second generation Pacifica, and then used the same ink and stamping techniques to add the sentiment from the Easter Bunny set to the inside.

I created the girl bunny card exactly like the previous one except that I also stamped the grass with Desert Sand ink using a stamp from the Easter Bunny set. You might also notice that I added shoes to both bunnies. It bothers me, for some reason, to have the images shoeless. I do the same thing with the kids in the True Love set.

Anyway, for the girl card, I used patterned paper from the Whimsy Fundamentals paper pack and Thistle ink for stamping.

And there you have it! This stamp is absolutely adorable, and so much fun to color. You could also make a card that says "Somebunny Wishes You"...."Happy Valentine's Day." (It's on my list!) This really is a versatile set, and certainly not just for spring and Easter.

Tuesday Treats: Little Nuggets of Love

Hi All! Welcome to another Tuesday Treats. We're in full Valentine mode here at the Hill house. I'm actually creating a little faster than I can blog, so be ready for a little Happy Heart Day celebrating throughout the month of February. 

I wanted to share a little treat box today that actually folds flat and can really be used for any occasion. 

For this box, I used a piece of polka dot kraft cardstock from Close To My Heart's Rustic Home Fundamentals paper collection cut to 6 1/4 x 8 1/2 inches. I used the same paper for the heart tag and cut it with the small heart from the Thin Cuts Basic Heart die set. The red heart was cut from the Cranberry Hearts paper in the Adventures Fundamentals paper pack using the extra small heart die from the same set. I popped the smaller heart on the larger with foam tape and added the XOXO sentiment from the CTMH Operation Smile: True Love stamp set in Cranberry in on White Daisy cardstock. I tied the tag on to the box and tied the box shut with a bit of bakers twine from my stash.

I managed to get 6 Hershey Nuggets into this wee little box! To add a little extra somethin' to the package, I wrapped each nugget with a band of matching pattern paper that was cut to 1 x 3 inches.

It really does fold completely flat, so you could make a bunch of these ahead of time and then decorate them in whatever the occasion calls for! The polkadots are festive, but certainly neutral enough to use any time of the year.

The final dimensions of the box (in inches) are: 2(w) x 2(l) x 1 1/4(h). It could hold all kinds of things, really.
