Hello Lovely 2017

Hi All! Welcome to the Rose Blossom February 2017 Blog Hop featuring Close To My Heart's Hello Lovely Collection. If you've just arrived from the ever-inspiring Shelly Nemitz's blog Just One Pretty Piece, you're in the right place. If you're just starting with me, you can find a full list of participants here.

Here's a look at the Hello Lovely Collection. This Art Deco inspired collection might be my favorite so far!

Now on with today's project. I started out this paper crafting journey as a scrapbooker. But between keeping up with my family and wanting to spread my creative wings, I have really gotten away from it. Nevertheless, toward the end of 2016, I decided that I wanted to document each month of 2017. I didn't want a complicated daily narrative, just a snap shot of who I am and what I am thinking about or doing on a single day in the month. So on the 17th of each month, I take a photo or two that gives a little peek into my life on that day. So let's take a look at February:

Most months will be single page layouts, but it just so happens that on the 17th of this month I'll be at Disney World with my hubby. The kids have their own gig to attend over the long weekend, so it will be just the two of us. I suspect I will need two pages to document everything for that day, and I might just document the whole weekend! The 6x8 base layers for both pages are cut from Kraft Cardstock.

To create the pages, I started with a sheet of patterned paper from the collection cut to 5 7/8 x 7 7/8 inches. To that layer, I added a 3 3/4 x 5 7/8-inch piece of pattern paper at the bottom, and then adhered 3 different zip strips cut to 5 7/8 inches from the collection above the patterned paper. To created a smoother transition between the floral pattern and the zip strip immediately above it, I added a 5 7/8-inch length of Blush Shimmer ribbon that covered the seam. I cut a 4 1/8-inch square photo mat from Kraft Cardstock and popped it up toward the top of the page using foam tape. I then added a bow from the Blush Shimmer Ribbon to the right-hand edge of the page. To finish it off, I added my title using letters from the Hello Lovely Complements pack and "my" and "life" from the Journaling Prompts stamp set stamped in Desert Sand ink and then colored over in Gold Metallic Marker and outlined with a 0.03 Copic Multiliner. The arrow, "remember," and flag stickers are also from the Complements pack. I then adhered the entire page to its Kraft Cardstock base.

Here are some close ups of the page:

Page two was made exactly like page one. However I adhered Kraft Cardstock photo mats (cut at 3 1/8- and 2 1/8-inches square) directly to the page. I created a hidden journaling area using a 3 x 4-inch flip flap and a journaling card from the cut apart page in the collection. I added two stickers from the complements pack and a Kraft Cardstock mat to the journaling card and slid it into the flip flap. I then added two journaling cards from the Picture My Life Journaling Cards pack beneath the flap. Finally, I embellished the page with three more stickers from the complements pack.

Here's a look at the embellishments and journaling area:

And here's the layout in its album:

Once I get the pictures in place and the journaling finished, I'll make a slit in the page protector and feed the flip flap through it. That will allow the journaling to be read without having to remove the page from the protector or the album, and yet it will still remain hidden when you are just thumbing through the book.

And there you go! A scrapbook layout from me! I hope you enjoyed it and are inspired to document your own year. Now hop on over to Tweetscraps and see what the oh-so-talented Morgan Vogt has in store for your inspiration.

And have a wonderfully creative week!

Halloween In Miniature.....

Hi All! It's been way too long since my last post, but theater season has begun in earnest. October has been full of costuming and makeup for the Middle School production of A Midsummers Night Dream and the Upper School production of Rock of Ages. I've also been reorganizing my craft space and creating a guest room in my basement. Yikes!

But in between the theater gigs, I wanted to share a mini album that I created for Halloween using the 3x3 envelopes from September's Creating Kindness kit.

Let's take a look:

For this album, covered heavy duty chipboard with papers from Close To my Heart's Jeepers Creepers collection, and decorated the front with elements from the Jeepers Creepers Complements and Assortment packs.

Here's a look at the cover:

The inside pages were made using 3x3 envelopes (2 per page), which I covered with the same papers. One of the papers in the collection is made up of a series of 4x6 and 3x4 images that you can cut apart to make inserts for pocket scrapbooking. I cut down some of those images to make tags to fit in the pockets of each page.

I used black cardstock to make a photo folder that tucks in the top of each page, and matted the folders using Pansy, Raspberry, Lemon, and Willow cardstocks. I used some decorative corner punches on the edges of the photo folders to add interest.

Using my mini stapler, I also stapled a bit of ribbon from my stash onto each of the tags to use as a pull tab.

Here's a quick look at some of the other pages as well:

And here's the front of the album once again:

Hope you enjoyed this quick peek at my Halloween mini. Stay tuned for the Rose Blossom blog hop coming up on November 1st!

Until then, have a wonderfully creative week!

Kraft-y Hearts' Friday Focus: Zoe

Hi All! The Kraft-y Hearts have decided to do something new this month! We are inaugurating a new blog share called Friday Focus that will highlight a different Close To My Heart paper collection each month. The Friday Focus will take place on the first Friday of each month beginning today!

Our focus for this month is on the Zoe Collection:

To showcase this fun collection, I used it to create an album for my daughter to take to camp with her this year. However, in creating the cover, I used a couple of stamp sets that aren't available to the public until September 1st. So I'm afraid you will have to wait to see the full cover until then (I'll show it when I showcase my son's album, which also incorporates new stamps that you're sure to love.) So with that, let's take a look at the album!

For the album itself, I used Close To My Heart's Hip Pics Album. This mini album sports a craft cover with white spiral-bound pages, and is ready for you to alter with your own papers and media. I chose to decorate the cover in layers of Glacier cardstock and Zoe polka-dot paper. Now while I can't show you the whole front cover, I did want to give you a look at a cluster I created in the bottom left corner using elements from Zoe assortment and complements, along with thin washi tape from the Carnival (yellow) and Boardwalk (green) packs. I used a little dimensional adhesive for layering as well.

Now let's take a look at the inside. The pages of the Hip Pics Albums mimic the old Polaroid picture frames. They are open at the top so that you can slide a 4x6 photo into the frame. I decided to use Smoothie and Glacier cardstocks instead of pictures to slide into the frames and then matted the opening with Zoe paper. I then added a piece of Kraft cardstock to the bottom of the page along with embellishments. Below is the first page, where I added a scripture verse I printed on my inkjet printer, and embellished the page with stickers from the Zoe complements pack:

The albums I make for the kids each year are designed for camp photos, but they also house notes from me and their dad along with "coupons" that they can redeem throughout the year for things like extra screen time, getting out of a chore or laundry duty, choosing a family outing, and that sort of thing. So the rest of the pages have little treat bags serving as pockets and folders that I created using my We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board. Each folder is made from Kraft cardstock and is matted on the front with Zoe paper. The pockets are embellished with Gold Polka-Dot washi tape along with more thin washi tapes from the Carnival and Boardwalk packs. I also added stickers from the Zoe complements pack and a little Coral Shimmer Trim for bling.

Below you can see where I added White Shimmer Trim for a little change up:

And here is a look at the folders (which hold notes and coupons inside). I added the date to each folder in Smoothie ink using my Dear Lizzie Date Stamp by American Crafts:

And that's it! My daughter is gone for 14 days, so there are 14 pockets total. The book has 8 pages so I used the back page to attach a little bit of paper so that she could write down contact information for her friends. (Campers cannot bring electronics to camp with them including cell phones, so she has to write it down! Kinda love that!)

I hope you enjoyed this look at Zoe. It's a fun and fabulous collection! Now, head on over to Lynn's blog, From My Bungalow, and see what inspiration goodness she has for you today!
