Pushing the Envelope....

Okay, so I was trying to decide if this post should be "pushing the envelope" or "in the bag"--and really either would work for today's project!

Once again, we are working with elements from the Simon Says Stamp November card kit. Included in the kit were two metallic envelopes--one in orange and one in copper. I decided to turn them into treat bags. (There are dozens of tutorials on YouTube for this project. I used this one.)

Let's take a look at the orange bag:

To make this bag, I sealed the envelope closed and scored it at one inch on two long sides and one short. I then cut a half-inch off the top (the side that wasn't scored). I then folded along the score lines and reinforced the creases using a bone folder. I then opened the envelope and carefully folded and creased the bottom so that it created a bag. (It's really much easier than it sounds.)

I then created a tag for the bag using ivory and blue cardstock scraps from the kit. I cut the tags using one of the Nesting Tags Dies by Hero Arts. I added sentiments from the Thankful Heart stamp set using retired Olive and Autumn Terracotta inks from Close To My Heart. I added hemp twine to the tag and clipped it on using a mini clothespin from the Lovestruck clothespins by Close To My Heart.

Here's a couple of close ups:

Next, I decided to add embossing to the bag made from the copper envelope.

The embossing is a fairly cool effect from afar, but it did rip the envelope a bit. I'm not sure if there's a way for me to adjust the embossing "sandwich" so that there would be less pressure on the envelope, but I'll experiment with that in the future.

I used the same tag set to make a tag for this one and stamped "thanks" using the copper Delicata ink from the kit. I didn't think the ink showed true "copper" on the blue cardstock, so I went over the stamping with a copper marker. I added twine to the tag and then clipped it to the bag with a clothespin from the Close To My Heart Happy Day Mini Clothespin collection.

Here's a close of of the tag and embossing:

And here's a look at the two bags together:

If you have suggestions on embossing thinner papers (like envelopes), please let me know.

Hope you enjoy these little treat bags. Stay tuned for one more project done with this versatile card kit!

Until then, have a fantastically creative day!

With All My Heart

Hi All! Welcome to another project using the November Card Kit by Simon Says Stamp. Today's cards feature the Thankful Heart stamp set and the Floral Frenzy embossing folder, which is included in the kit.

Let's take a look:

For this card, I cut a 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 inch panel from ivory cardstock and embossed it with the Floral Frenzy folder from the Simon Says Stamp kit and the circle embossing diffuser from Close To My Heart. The diffuser allowed me to leave a circular portion of the cardstock flat so that I could stamp my sentiment on it without any trouble.

I stamped the sentiments with Indian Corn Blue (now retired), and layered the "thank you" on scraps of patterned paper from the kit and copper foil vellum from the Rustic Home Fundamentals collection by Close To My Heart. I then popped the layers over some hemp twine from my stash using foam tape. I also added drops of Rose Gold Liquid Pearls to some of the embossed areas for a little extra pizazz.

I made a second card using Olive ink (retired as well) and changed up the small sentiment to "love you." I then added the panels to Colonial White card bases.

Here's a couple of collages of close-ups for both cards:

And here are the two cards together:

These cards are so simple, just basic stamping and a few scraps. Still, the embossing folder really just takes the whole thing to the next level.

Stay tuned for a couple more projects that I made with Simon Says Stamp's November kit. Until then, have a fabulously creative day!

No Better Time To Be Thankful

Hi All! So last month, I purchased Simon Says Stamp's November Kit of The Month. I finally got a chance to play with it over the weekend and thought I'd share what I made, starting with my 15 (FIFTEEN!!!) 4-Bar (3-1/2 x 5 inches) cards.

Let's take a look:

The kit came with Simon Says Stamp's Thankful Heart stamp set, a mini cube of copper Delicata Ink,  twelve 6 x 6 inch sheets of patterned paper by Echo Park, 4 sheets of 8-1/2 x 11 inch cardstock in blue, green, red, and cream, one copper pearlized envelope and one orange pearlized envelope, a bottle of gold Stickles, the Floral Frenzy embossing folder and a cute little daisy metal paper clip. The kits are sold out, but I'll have links below to the components I used in this project.

I created the card bases from white, index-weight cardstock by Neenah and then layered them with blue, green or red cardstocks from the kit. I then used my MISTI to stamp the greeting on Close To My Heart's White Daisy cardstock using Autumn Terracotta Ink (which was retired a while back, but matches the orange in the paper quite well). I layered the greeting onto patterned paper and added a strip of Rose Gold Foil Tape for a bit of bling. I then added that layer to the card base. I stamped "for everything" on scraps of coordinating cardstock in VersaMark ink and then heat embossed it with Rangers Super Fine Detailed White embossing powder. I flagged one end of the greeting and then popped it up on the card using foam tape. And boom! 15 cards start to finish in about an hour!

Here's a look at examples of the green and red cards:

You'll notice on the red card above that I didn't use the Rose Gold Foil Tape. The tape covered too much of that particular pattern, which I think it holds its own pretty well anyway.

Here's a quick look at each of the color groupings:

Though the 4-Bar size is small, it can still be sent through regular mail. I really enjoying working with this size because it allows me to stretch my supplies as well.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed these little cards! Stay tuned for more projects made with this versatile kit.

Until next time, have a wonderfully creative day!
